BARBARA KIBBE JOINS BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CENTER FOR EFFECTIVE
PHILANTHROPY; MARK FULLER RE-ELECTED TO NEW TERM
Cambridge, MA… Barbara Kibbe, Vice President
for Program and Effectiveness at the Skoll Foundation, was elected
to a three-year term on the Center for Effective Philanthropy’s
Board of Directors, effective March 1, 2005. Mark Fuller, Chairman
and CEO of the Monitor Group and a member of CEP’s Board since
its founding in 2000, was elected to a new three-year term, also
effective March 1, 2005.
Kibbe Was Among Early Center Funders
Kibbe, who was among the initial funders of CEP
in the summer of 2001 when she was director, organizational effectiveness
and philanthropy program at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation,
has served continuously since 2002 as a member of CEP’s Advisory
Board. “Barbara Kibbe recognized the need for CEP early on
and played a central role in its establishment,” said CEP
Board Chair Phil Giudice. “She has been a key advisor over
the years and we are delighted that she will now bring her tremendous
knowledge, vision, and passion to her position on the Board of Directors.”
“Barbara Kibbe is a groundbreaking foundation
leader,” said Phil Buchanan, the CEP’s Executive Director.
“She has been a powerful advocate for strengthening the leadership
of foundations by building the field’s infrastructure and
developing more robust comparative data to inform decision-making.”
In her role at Skoll, Kibbe is responsible for
leading a growing team of professionals, who guide the Foundation’s
grantmaking, as well as designing and implementing a system for
measuring the results of grantmaking. She is also a founder and
current board member of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations
(GEO), a group of more than 700 funders dedicated to building knowledge,
promoting learning and encouraging dialogue on nonprofit and grantmaker
effectiveness. Her newest publication, "Reflections on the
Journey," will be included in a collection of essays on the
funder role in building nonprofit capacity; it will be published
later this year by Jossey-Bass and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations.
Kibbe has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector
as a nonprofit executive, grantmaker and foundation program director
and was twice selected by The Nonprofit Times for its annual
list of the 50 most powerful and influential people in the nonprofit
sector.
The Skoll Foundation is a funder of the Center
for Effective Philanthropy.
Fuller, a Founding Board Member, will Continue
to Serve
Mark Fuller was among the founding board members
of the Center for Effective Philanthropy. “Mark Fuller’s
contributions to CEP’s establishment and development have
been tremendous,” said Giudice. “He brings a wealth
of experience and expertise gained from his role as founder, chairman,
and CEO of one of the world’s leading strategy consulting
firms as well as his personal long standing commitment and involvement
in nonprofits, including Monitor’s ongoing extensive support
for New Profit Incorporated. He has played instrumental roles at
key moments in the CEP’s development and we are delighted
that he is willing to continue to serve.”
Fuller leads the Monitor Group, a firm he co-founded
in 1982. The Group currently competes in three different business
areas: general management consulting, principal investing, and intelligent
products software. As Chief Executive, Fuller oversees overall Group
strategy, human resource development, and knowledge and product
innovation.
Fuller formerly served as an assistant professor
of business administration at the Harvard Business School where
he taught strategy formulation, implementation and industry and
competitive analysis. While a professor, he was co-director of Harvard's
Project on the Auto Industry and the American Economy. Fuller serves
as a governor of the Asian Institute of Management, a director of
the Conflict Management Group, a trustee of Belmont Hill School,
a foundation member of the World Economic Forum, as well as a member
of Massachusetts' Governor's Council on Economic Growth and Technology.
“Barbara Kibbe and Mark Fuller will be key
contributors to CEP’s continued success,” said Buchanan.
“This is a moment of great receptivity to opportunities for
improvement in the performance of this country’s leading foundations.
CEP’s goal is to enable this higher performance through the
provision of comparative data and insight. The strength of our board
gives me confidence in our ability to achieve this objective.”
