SARAH DI TROIA JOINS CENTER FOR EFFECTIVE PHILANTHROPY AS ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR; CENTER ALSO ADDS NEW RESEARCH ADVISOR AS TEAM EXPANDS

Cambridge, MA: Sarah Di Troia will join CEP April 12 as Associate Director and will take on a broad array of responsibilities related to defining and executing CEP's research agenda, creating new assessment tools serving foundation leaders, and further developing and executing CEP's strategy. She will lead CEP's Foundation Governance Project, which seeks to identify key challenges and effective practices in foundation governance.

"We are incredibly fortunate to be able to add Sarah Di Troia to our team," said Phil Buchanan, CEP's Executive Director. "Her combination of nonprofit and business experience, keen analytical abilities, and passion and vision will strengthen CEP immensely."

Di Troia's background includes significant venture capital, consulting, and nonprofit management experience. Most recently, Sarah has served as a Principal of Axxon Capital, a $54 million venture fund focused on women- and minority-led companies. Her previous positions include Vice President of Ventures of Cambridge Innovations and Director of Marketing at Planned Parenthood of New York City. Di Troia has a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College. She has served in a variety of capacities with community organizations in Boston and Cambridge and is co-founder and chair of the Women's Venture Capital Network.

Also joining CEP, effective March 24, is Ellie Buteau. She will serve part-time as Senior Research Advisor and will work on the design and execution of CEP's research studies as well as analysis of CEP's data sets related to foundation performance and effectiveness.

"Ellie Buteau brings crucial research and analysis skills that will significantly strengthen CEP's capabilities," said Buchanan.

Ellie is an expert in research design and statistical analyses and has conducted analyses for research projects at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Tufts University, and a variety of other institutions. She teaches courses on statistics and quantitative analysis as an instructor at Tufts University and has been published in a number of journals. Buteau has a PhD in Social-Personality Psychology with a focus on Methodology from City University of New York Graduate Center and a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in Montreal.

Di Troia and Buteau join CEP's other staff including Buchanan, Associate Director Kevin Bolduc, Senior Research Analysts Ellie Carothers and Judy Huang, Office Manager Alyse d'Amico, and Research Analyst John Davidson. CEP received initial funding in the summer of 2001, and has doubled the size of its staff in the past year as demand for its research, programming, and assessment tools has increased significantly.
