1) What is the Center for Effective Philanthropy?
The Center for Effective Philanthropy is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to improve the practice of philanthropy by providing management and governance tools to define, assess, and improve overall foundation performance.
2) Why should I respond to this grantee survey?
As a nonprofit grantee of a foundation, you have a unique and important perspective on your funder. Conducting a large-scale survey is a way to gather data on foundation-grantee relationships, which the Center uses – in the aggregate, without revealing identifying information – in field-wide research reports. Please register to download or order these reports. This data is also used in the creation of the Grantee Perception Report®, a widely used management tool through which foundation leaders can see their foundations' performance, as viewed by grantees, on a comparative basis.
3) How was I chosen to receive a survey?
You were asked to respond to this survey along with many grantee organizations of the foundation identified on your survey. Your foundation is one of 28 chosen as part of this round of surveys on the funder-grantee relationship. Prior to this survey round, the Center has surveyed the grantees of over 100 foundations on their experiences with funders. For a list of these foundations, click here.
4) Who will see my survey response?
The only people who will view your survey response are the staff members of the Center for Effective Philanthropy. We are committed to complete confidentiality. Your responses will be used in aggregate as part of our survey sample of more than 4,800 non-profits from 28 foundations. While we hope that you will choose to respond with your organization name, which helps us track response rates, you have the option of responding anonymously. If you do respond anonymously, please fill in the tracking number provided on the cover letter of your survey so that you do not receive extra reminders.
5) What should I do if I am not the correct person in my organization to answer questions concerning this grant?
If you feel that someone else is better-suited to complete this survey, please pass this on to that person; whoever knows the grant and relationship with the funder well is invited to respond.
6) I completed this survey earlier this year. Should I fill out this one as well?
Yes; we appreciate your continued participation so that others can benefit from your insight on your experiences with your funder. The Center for Effective Philanthropy surveyed the grantees of more than 100 foundations over four survey rounds, in addition to the 28 currently being surveyed in this round.
