- MacArthur Foundation President Jonathan
Fanton spoke about the potential, and risks, of focusing on
foundation effectivness, drawing on his experience as leader of
one of the largest foundations in the country at CEP's March 8-9
conference.
2006
CEP gathered more than 50 key early
supports on September 14, 2006 to celebrate CEP's five-year anniversary
in New York.
- Phil Buchanan discussed “The
Foundation Effectiveness Imperative” and called on a
group of funders and early adpoters of CEP's assessment tools
to embrace "five elements of foundation effectiveness."
- Lumina Foundation for Education's CEO Martha
Lamkin described Lumina's approach to performance assessment.
- Surdna Foundation Executive Director Edward
Skloot and the Monitor Institute's Barbara
Kibbe discussed barriers to improved foundation effectiveness.
- Duke University's Joel
Fleishman, who discussed CEP's achievements and his thoughts
on its future.
2005
- Executive Director Phil Buchanan stressed the
importance of a "new language of assessment for foundations"
in opening
remarks to 230 foundation leaders at CEP's 2005 seminar in
San Francisco.
2003
- Michael Bailin, former President of the Edna
McConnell Clark Foundation, drew on his foundation's experience
as he described the challenges foundations face on the path to
greater effectiveness and accountability during his keynote
address at CEP's 2003 seminar in New York.
- Edward Skloot, Executive Director of the Surdna
Foundation, affirmed the value of striving for effectiveness and
accountability, but also challenged seminar participants to look
beyond management tactics and breathe new life into funder-grantee
relationships during his
address at CEP's 2003 seminar in New York.
